Bouquet vs Vase - What Type of flowers should I order?

Vase Arrangements: We’d recommend a vase arrangement if you want to ensure your flowers are artistically arranged in a lush floral style, you aren’t certain that the flower recipient has a vase or, if you need your flowers to travel and stay hydrated, we’d recommend a vase arrangement. What if I don’t want to pay for the vase every time? No problem - we are happy to have you return vases to us and we will put the cost of the vase back into the flowers the next month. Insider tip: some beautiful flower stems are too short to work well in bouquets, but are perfect for low vases including some varieties of sweet pea, early anemone and ranunculus, hellebores and more.

Bouquets: Bouquets are a bunch of flowers wrapped in craft paper or burlap. We think our bouquets are beautiful, but there is less artistic design work with bouquets and all stems are generally the same length. Bouquets are perfect for the person who wants to do some of their own floral design and arranging.

Price Point?

How do I know what price point to pick? Floral items are priced by the type of flowers (some are more expensive), number of flowers (roughly equates to size) and the complexity of the design. For our subscription customers, we typically have a mix of flowers with some being more expensive (roses, dahlias, peonies, ranunculus, anemone) and some being less expensive (daisy, carnations, mums) and many in-between. The starting price of a $30 bouquet would be ~10 floral stems and add 1-3 stems for each $5 increment. Most vases run between $4 - $10 and the price is included in the arrangement unless we have an agreement to get the vase back and reuse it.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR CUT FLOWERS:

  • Keep them out of direct sunlight

  • Even temperatures (keep away from radiators or forced hot air/AC)

  • Keep away from fruit (especially apples, bananas as the give off ethylene, a gas that will shorten bloom time)

  • Change the water every other day

  • Give stems a fresh cut before they go back into the vase

  • Make sure your scissors and vase are clean before starting

  • Flower food/preservative will also lengthen the bloom time of your cut flowers.  As part of our ethos to use methods gentle to the environment, we will provide a small glass jar of flower food or you can easily make your own with a simple recipe (good for 3-4) water exchanges:

    • 1 quart warm water (warm water helps the sugar dissolve)

    • 1 tablespoons lemon juice  or white vinegar (strained)

    • 1/2 tablespoon sugar

    • 1/4-1/2  teaspoon bleach – less is more with the bleach
